 Post War:

Jack had been very active post-War in Commemorations, until his late 80s. Sadly, Jack’s wife Olive passed away on the 19th April 2019. Olive had been a supporter and carer for Jack since the War and an active partner and correspondent in the Association activities undertaken by Jack in Townsville.

It is with sadness that we note the passing of PIB Jungle Fighter, Lt. John Charles McIntosh MID, in Townsville hospital on 14th November 2019. Jack is survived by son Kevin and daughter Irene.

Association Vice President Greg Ivey commented:

“I suspect that it was no coincidence that Jack held on until Remembrance Day. Jack, like the late Frank Wust, held that Remembrance Day was the most important day of the year. Characteristically, Remembrance Day was more important to them than Anzac Day.”

Daughter Irene Heath provided the photographs below. She writes:

These photos are copies of those that have been kept in a tobacco tin in a garden shed in Townsville for the past 70 odd years. My father, who took them during WW2 in Papua New Guinea, has given them to me to share with those who I know would be interested in seeing them.
They were taken on a Baby Brownie Camera (manufactured by Eastman/Kodak C0, 1934-1941) that Jack won in a Two-Up game in Bougainville from an unlucky American Soldier. The camera could have been purchased in America in 1935 for $1.
The photos were tagged by virtue of Jack’s magnificent memory that could put names and places to them after so many years without hesitation.
Dad continued to fly the flags of Australia, New Zealand and PNG outside his home as a mark of respect and honour to those of the “Green Shadows”.
