APRIL 25 – ANZAC DAY MARCHES

ANZAC Day marches were held in most states this year, WA being an exception. Thanks to those members who shared the experience and contributed photos of the commemorations. See the May Newsletter for reports and photos.
Comments and photos from commemorations in other locations are always welcome additions to this website.

July 25 – ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The AGM was held at the Geebung – Zillmere RSL Club commencing at 1:00pm. Preceding the usual business of the meeting was a celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of the PIR. The two senior Officers present, Majors Don Graham and Laurence Quinliven, gave brief synopses of their experiences in the PIR in the 1950’s and 1960’s and cut the Anniversary cake prepared by Mrs Lindy Horton.

The Membership drive for 2020-2021 was reported as a success and further efforts were planned for the following year.

AUGUST 8 – KOKODA DAY COMMEMORATION Broadbeach QLD

George Friend, the organiser of the event advised that, due to COVID restrictions, the event would be cancelled. The Southport School also withdrew their support for COVID reasons. The School usually supplies the music, Padre and the Catafalque party.
This event is held annually at the Kokoda Memorial Wall at Broadbeach. The Association endeavours to play a significant role in the event laying a wreath and ensuring PIB and NGIB fallen are remembered in the roll call. It was also planned for this year to include a ceremony recognising the placement of a paver in the memorial path behind the Kokoda Wall. This was to recognise Lt Col Fed Lucas, father of Frankie McLean who is the current treasurer of the Association.

11 NOVEMBER -ARMISTANCE DAY

In Brisbane, several members gathered at the ANZAC Square for the 10:30am service and President Don Graham laid a wreath. Following the service, members adjourned for lunch and bonhomie.
