MINUTES OF THE AGM ON 25 APRIL 2012
for the PIB NGIB HQ PIR Association
held at Geebung-Zillmere RSL Club, Brisbane

Introduction
Welcome to all was given by President Frank Wust.

Open: President Frank opened the AGM at 2.18 pm.

President Frank spoke of:
     – his Sydney trip
     – laying a wreath at Sherwood Kokoda Remembrance

     – his representation of the Association at the Caboolture Remembrance Day service

President Frank vacated the Chair and Assistant Sec / Treas Ian Ogston conducted the elections.
Acting Chairman Ian congratulated and thanked the outgoing Committee for another successful year.

Ordinary Meeting

General Business
Re-elected President Frank Wust resumed the Chair, thanked Ian Ogston for conducting the elections, and called for items of General Business.

1. Annual Dues. Moved: Kev Horton Seconded: Greg Ivey “ That Annual Dues remain at $5 per year.” CARRIED

2. Re-union 26 July 2012 – Greg Ivey reported that the 70th Anniversary of the Kokoka campaign will be commemorated in conjunction with the 2/14 th Battalion Association. Our Patron to be Guest Speaker. Moved: Ian Ogston: Seconded: Noel Wust: “That $100 of Association funds be allocated to Greg Ivey to facilitate our involvement in this reunion/commemoration.” CARRIED

3. Patron from Jan 2013 – Moved: Kev Horton Seconded: Greg Farr: “That the Secretary be authorised to approach distinguished officers for the position of Patron from Jan 2013” CARRIED

4. PIB NGIB Plaque – A photo of the PIR (PIB/NGIB) plaque at the Australian War Memorial was submitted to the meeting. It was agreed that because the plaque already exists there is no need to pursue the matter of a separate PIB plaque any further. Greg Ivey is to contact Alan Hooper regarding this matter.

5. Website costs. Moved: Greg Ivey: That $100 of Association funds be allocated to the maintenance of the website: www.pngnashos.com and that reference be made on a separate page of this website to the PIB/NGIB/HQ/PIR Association. Seconded: Kev Horton. CARRIED

6. Frankie Maclean re PIR Medal for father. Moved: Kev Horton Seconded: Ian Ogston: That the Secretary liaise with Frankie Maclean on this matter. CARRIED

7. Other general business. Moved: Ian Wust: Seconded: Ian Ogston: That Greg Ivey and Kev Horton be made Life Members of the Association. CARRIED

Lest we forget – We acknowledge the following deaths which come to our attention.

Col Donald M Ramsay (OAM) passed away July 2011 in Sydney. Donald served in the Royal Highland Regiment during WW II – transferred to Australian Army in 1952 – Malaya Campaign 1955-57. From 1960-62 he served in 1PIR, Taurama Bcks, then from 1965-67 he raised the 2nd Battalion, PIR, at Moem Bcks and became its foundation CO. In 2006, Col Ramsay wrote a Seminal Paper, now widely recognized, on the crucial role played by the PIB and NGIB during WWII. Later he was a Committee Member of our Assn.

Capt Roy W. Sheargold – passed away 6th July 2011 near Sydney. Roy served in the Papuan Infantry Battalion during WW II. He was a very active member of the PIB in NSW, later known as the PIR Assn of Australia.

Alexander William Foster – passed away on 13th Jan 2012 in Fremantle, aged 91. Alex’s son Leo reports that Alex always spoke proudly of his experiences in the Papuan Infantry Battalion.

W.O. John Donald McKay DSM MM – passed away on 5th June 2011. Don served in the 39th Batalion during WW II. He was later posted to the First Battalion PIR, at Taurama Bcks where, as the last European RSM, he prepared local soldiers to take positions of responsibility.

WE SALUTE THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE. REST IN PEACE.
